Storm Adds Karlie Samuelson for Remainder of Season

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm announced the signing of forward Karlie Samuelson to a rest of season contract on Monday. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Samuelson, a Fullerton, California native and sister of Storm forward Katie Lou Samuelson, is in her third season in the WNBA, playing 11 games and making three starts in 2021 with Los Angeles. Originally signed to a hardship contract with the Sparks, Samuelson averaged 3.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game while shooting 47.8% (11-of-23) from three-point range. In three seasons in the league, she has appeared in 38 games, scoring 70 points and pulling down 39 rebounds.

This past offseason, Samuelson teamed with her sister to help Perfumerias Avenida (Spain) to EuroLeague finals against new Storm teammate Breanna Stewart's UMMC-Ekaterinburg. During nine EuroLeague games, she averaged 6.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while posting the second-best +/- on the team at 13.1-just behind her sister.

Samuelson played collegiately at Stanford before signing a training camp contract with Los Angeles prior to the 2018 season. In her senior season with the Cardinal, she averaged career highs in points (12.4), rebounds (3.4) and assists (2.7) and personal bests in field goal percentage (.482) and 3-point field goal percentage (.485) in 2016-17. When she graduated, Samuelson's 249 career 3-pointers were third in the school record books. A career 44.3 percent 3-point shooter, Samuelson is second at Stanford to Jennifer Azzi, tied for fourth in Pac-12 annals and 19th in NCAA history.

The Samuelson sisters are set to be the first sisters to play for the Storm in the franchise's 22-year history.

Seattle closes out a five-game road trip on Tuesday, facing the Minnesota Lynx at 6 p.m. CT (4 p.m. PT) at Target Center. The Storm then returns to the Northwest for its first home game since July 11, hosting the Chicago Sky on Friday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at Angel Of The Winds Arena in Everett.
