Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports and Humana, a leading health and well-being company, are partnering to host Hats Off to Heroes Night, including a Vietnam War Commemoration Veterans Pinning Ceremony, on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, during a regular season game vs. Modesto Nuts.
The pinning ceremony will honor and recognize those who served during the Vietnam War era. This is a special moment for many Vietnam War-era veterans who were not welcomed back in the way most veterans are today. The ceremony serves as a "welcome home," publicly acknowledging the military service and sacrifices made by these veterans, and their families, during the Vietnam War.
Humana is a Commemorative Partner for the Vietnam War Commemoration, which was established by the President and Congress to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War as a way to thank and honor Vietnam War-era veterans.
Humana and the Ports will honor local Vietnam War-era veterans with an on-field pinning ceremony and a moment of silence prior to the game.
Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to participate in the pinning ceremony. Vietnam War-era veterans who are interested in participating are asked to sign up in advance by calling Humana at (415) 590-9087.
In honor of this occasion, the first 500 fans will receive a Ports and Humana co-branded camouflage baseball hat. Gates will open to the general public at 6:00 p.m., and 5:45 p.m. for season ticket holders.
The pinning ceremony will take place between 6:40-6:55 p.m. Veterans are asked to arrive in the ballpark no later than 6:30 p.m. and should check in at Humana's concourse booth upon arrival. Ceremonial first pitches will take place following the pinning ceremony, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
Tickets are available online at stocktonports.com, or at the Ports Box Office, located at Banner Island Ballpark. Season tickets and mini-plans are also available.
Fans can follow the Ports on social media @StocktonPorts on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, and on Facebook.com/PortsBaseball.
