Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA, CA - Visalia (56-41, 10-17) allowed three home runs to Stockton (39=58, 12-15) en route to a 10-4 loss in game one of their four game series at Rawhide Ballpark on Thursday night.
CF James Harris of the Ports finished a home run shy of cycle and was a catalyst at the leadoff spot leading of the first and sixth innings with a hit and driving in two with a double in the fourth.
Stockton scored early and often in the six run win, beginning with three runs in the second inning against LHP Alex Young (0-2, 6.95). A leadoff double by 2B Mikey White followed by a RF Seth Brown single led to a C Argenis Raga sacrifice fly and then a two-run home run from 3B Jose Brizuela, who had the long ball bounce off the top of the barn in right-center field and it was 3-0 Stockton.
It was White again who began a scoring rally in fourth with a walk and Brown followed with a single. They both came home on Harris's two bagger for a 5-0 Ports lead.
Visalia cracked the scoreboard in a wacky fourth inning where Stockton committed three errors and both Rawhide tallies were unearned and no RBIs were granted. LF Grant Heyman doubled and stole third, scoring on an error charged to Raga the backstop to make it 5-1 Stockton. RF Stryker Trahan walked with a wild pitch moving him to second before scoring on an errant pick-off throw by RHP Michael Murray (1-0, 0.00), who was making his California League debut, to cut the lead to 5-2.
The fifth inning was the final frame for Young after a solo home run by LF B.J Boyd made it 6-2. 1B Sandber Pimentel followed with a single and White tripled for a 7-2 lead before Brown hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-2 Ports.
Young ultimately pitched 4.2 innings and allowed a season high 10 hits and eight runs (all earned), he walked two and struck out three in the loss.
Stockton scored their final two runs in the top of the ninth against RHP Drew Muren on a Pimentel two run home run, his 15th of the season before Visalia scored twice in the bottom of the ninth on a couple of infield singles an error and a walk. The lone RBI issued to Visalia came on a SS Robelys Reyes infield single that made it 10-4.
During a stretch from the final out in the fourth inning against Murray, who pitched five innings and allowed three hits and two unearned runs with two walks and three strikeouts, until the leadoff man in the ninth inning, the Rawhide had 14 straight hitters retired.
Game two of the series is tomorrow night from Rawhide Ballpark with another 7:00 p.m first pitch. RHP Joel Payamps (2-3, 4.36) will make the start in game two for Visalia against RHP Brett Graves (4-8, 5.47) for Stockton. Tomorrow night is "Fire Fighters Night" with a 5:00 p.m. pregame softball game featuring some "Everyday Heroes" and there are postgame fireworks on another Fun-Filled Friday presented by Suncrest Bank.
