TONIGHT
The Heat look to continue their winning ways in the first of a two-game weekend set against Pacific Division foe San Diego at Stockton Arena. Stockton has not seen much of the Gulls coming into this weekend's set but the clubs will play each other three times over the next five days, in Stockton on Friday and Saturday and in San Diego on Wednesday.
Last time the two got together, it was San Diego that emerged victorious with a 7-4 final in early January in Stockton.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Heat have won three-straight games at Stockton Arena after Sunday's win over the San Jose Barracuda. Stockton's last loss on home ice came on Feb. 1, a 6-4 setback against San Jose. All-time, Stockton is 12-4-0-1 against the Gulls at home.
COMEBACK KIDS
The Heat rattled off four unanswered goals Sunday to turn a 1-0 deficit after 40 minutes into a 4-1 win over a Pacific Division rival. The win was the first for Stockton when trailing after two periods since December 29, a 3-2 win over the Tucson Roadrunners. In that game, the Heat were down 2-1 after two periods.
BIG ON SHORTIES
Ryan Lomberg got the comeback bid started on Sunday with a shorthanded goal at 8:53 of the third. The strike on the penalty kill was the third in three games for the Heat, which finished the weekend with the second-highest total of SHG in the AHL with 11, trailing Syracuse and Colorado's total of 12.
GILLY GILLY
Jon Gillies has offered stability between the pipes for the Heat of late, earning the starting nod in five of the last six games and winning four of his last five appearances. Last time out, Gillies turned away 36 of 37 shots faced in a 4-1 win over San Jose. The netminder's strong play extends well beyond that one game, though, as he owns marks of a .924 SVP and 2.41 GAA over his last four games played.
ON THE PLUS SIDE
Juuso Valimaki has been racking up ice time patrolling the blue line for the Heat, and he's also been adding pluses on a regular basis. The rookie defenseman comes into tonight's game with a plus-8 rating over his last four contests and is a plus-5 through 11 AHL games.
FOLLOW THE LEADER
Alan Quine leads on the offensive end for the Heat against San Diego, coming into tonight's game with an impressive seven points (3g,4a) in three games this year against the Gulls.
