Stingrays Re-Sign Forwards Joe Devin and Brett Cameron

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), have re-signed forwards Joe Devin and Brett Cameron, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.
Devin, 27, was a key player during the club's run to the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals. He finished tied for third on the team with 13 goals in 27 playoff games. Devin scored several key goals for the Stingrays in the postseason. First, he notched a pair of third period goals, including the winning tally, in Game 7 of the East Division Semifinals series with Reading. Later in the playoffs, his triple-overtime Game 7 goal against Toledo sent the Stingrays to the Kelly Cup Finals.
"I'm excited to get back to the south and join the Stingrays again this year," said Devin. "The season we had last year was an amazing journey. Although we would like to change the result of the last game, it doesn't take away from what we accomplished. I kept in touch with Coach Carbery throughout the summer, and after last year, I'm excited to get back. The organization is so well run and they take care of their players. The fans and boosters are fantastic, and the city is so involved in the team. I really noticed it in the playoffs last year that there is a sense of pride to play for the Charleston area."
Devin appeared in 46 regular season games with the Stingrays, notching 28 points (17 goals, 11 assists). The 6-foot-1, 186-pound Devin began his pro hockey career in 2011-2012 with Cincinnati after a four year NCAA career at Cornell University, where he was teammates with new Stingray Nick D'Agostino for two seasons.
"Hopefully I'll pick up where I left off and build on it," said Devin. "I was fortunate enough to score a few goals in the playoffs, but I'll play any role Coach Carbery feels fit. I'll do what I can to help the team experience success, no matter if that's scoring goals, killing penalties or whatever is asked of me."
Cameron, 24, joined the Stingrays this past March following the completion of his NCAA career. He scored four points (three goals, one assist) in three games with South Carolina before being called up to Adirondack of the American Hockey League (AHL), where he appeared in five games.
"Returning to the Stingrays was an easy decision for me," said Cameron. "I feel it's the best organization in the league. Coming from college, my stint in South Carolina was enjoyable, and I forward to playing the role of a big, strong, power forward, and working hard in both ends of the ice."
Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-3, 214-pound Cameron played at University of Alaska-Anchorage for parts of five seasons, totaling 65 points (26 goals, 39 assists) in 143 games. He was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team twice, and served as the captain of the team his final two seasons. Before joining the NCAA ranks, the Spruce Grove, Alberta, native skated three seasons of junior hockey adding 137 points (55 goals, 82 assists) in 144 games with the Spruce Grove Saints of the AJHL.
