August 10, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have re-signed forward Joe Devin, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Ryan Warsofsky announced today.
"It's great to have Joe Devin signed for the upcoming season," said Warsofsky. "As we've seen, he leads by example and works hard night in and night out. Guys see how bad he wants to win and how bad he wants to score goals. That's contagious. He's a smart, detailed hockey player who rises to the occasion."
For the second straight season with South Carolina, Devin, 28, played a key role for the Stingrays in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Scituate, Massachusetts native finished the playoffs tied for the team-lead with 10 goals and collected 19 points. Devin scored the double-overtime winning goal in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus Adirondack, propelling the Stingrays to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive season. Over his last two postseason campaigns, Devin has scored four goals in Game 7's, including the triple-overtime winning goal versus Toledo that sent the Stingrays to the Kelly Cup Finals in 2015.
"I'm excited to sign my contract and be back in South Carolina," said Devin. "It's an unbelievable organization that I cannot say enough about. This place has become like a home to me and I cannot wait to get going and play for Ryan Warsofsky this year."
Devin split time in the 2015-16 regular season with the Stingrays and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL). He collected 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) in 55 games with South Carolina and served as an alternate captain for the club. He also scored seven points (five goals, two assists) in 16 games with Lake Erie where he played for Stingrays Hall of Famer Jared Bednar.
In total, Devin has played in 154 ECHL games, collecting 90 points (43 goals, 47 assists) with Cincinnati and South Carolina. He skated four seasons at Cornell University, and was the captain his senior year prior to turning professional in 2011. Devin joins Patrick Gaul, Trevor Gillies, Marcus Perrier, and Colton Saucerman as returning players who have agreed to terms with the Stingrays for 2016-17.
The Stingrays' 24th season in the Lowcountry starts on October 22. 2016-17 Season Ticket Packages are on sale now featuring discounted pricing and great benefits! For more information, fans may call the Stingrays' offices at 843-744-2248 or visit StingraysHockey.com.
