Stingrays Fall in Triple Overtime Thriller to Everblades in Game 4
May 6, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (7-4) and Florida Everblades (5-5) needed triple overtime before the Everblades registered a 2-1 victory in Game 4 of the East Division Finals at the North Charleston Coliseum Wednesday night. The Stingrays lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 with a chance to close in Game 5 Friday night at 7:05 at the Coliseum.
After a physical first period of action, the Everblades broke the scoreless tie late in the second frame as defenseman Mike Little snuck a shot through a screen and past the glove of Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (L, 48 saves on 50 shots) at 17:58.
Late in the third period and with Jakaitis pulled for the extra attacker, the Stingrays retaliated when defenseman Drew MacKenzie blasted a pass from forward Wayne Simpson through the glove of Everblades goaltender Allen York (W, 43 saves on 44 shots) with 1:04 to play for his second goal of the playoffs. Defenseman Frankie Simonelli added the second assist.
Both teams exchanged scoring rushes in the first overtime and 25 total shots found the net in double overtime, but the two sides needed triple overtime to settle the affair. Everblades forward Cory Trivino knocked a bouncing puck past Jakaitis 5:38 into the third session for the game-winning tally. The Stingrays finished the night 0-for-3 on the power play while the Everblades went 0-for-5.
The Stingrays host the Everblades for Game 5 of the best-of-seven series on Wednesday, May 6 and Friday May 8 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Individual tickets are on sale at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office, StingraysHockey.com and Ticketmaster tomorrow morning at 10:00.
