
Stingrays acquire Huppe from Cincy

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that forward Curtis Huppe (pronounced HUPP-e) has been acquired from the Cincinnati Cyclones, completing a deal that sent Kris Cantu to Cincinnati at the trade deadline. Huppe has two years experience as a professional in the ECHL, after a junior career in the WHL.
"We expect Curtis to be a strong addition to our team this season," said Fitzsimmons. "He has good size, and is gifted around the net. We are hoping to see him score some goals in a Stingrays uniform."
Huppe has scored over 20 goals in each of his first two seasons in the ECHL. The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba split his time between the Greenville Grrrowl and the Greensboro Generals in 2000-01 and netted 22 goals and added 28 assists for 50 points in 67 games. Last season, he spent time with the Jackson Bandits, Arkansas Riverblades and Cincinnati and scored 21 goals and chipped in 18 assists for 39 points in 68 games.
Huppe stands 6'1" and weighs 200 lbs. He played junior hockey in the Western Hockey league with the Tri-City Americans, the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Medicine Hat Tigers. In the 1998-99 season he scored 45 goals in 66 games with the Hurricanes and Americans.
"We have already had a good conversation with Curtis and expect no trouble in getting him to sign with the club," noted Assistant Coach Jared Bednar. "I think he is excited to have the chance to come here to contribute."
The Stingrays kick off their tenth -anniversary season in October.
