Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) have announced the completion of three trades that were initially made during the past season. The lone player the Generals have acquired the rights to left wing Aniket Dhadphale (AH-neh-kit DOD-fah-lee) from the Macon Whoopee. In separate deals, the Generals have also traded defensemen Dion Lassu to the Johnstown Chiefs and Leigh Dean to the Peoria Rivermen.
Dhadphale, 26, is considered the future considerations for a trade that sent defenseman Jason Metcalfe to the Whoopee on February 27. The 6' 3", 190 pound native of Marquette, MI started his pro career with the Generals in the 1999-2000 season. Dhadphale posted 35 points (18g, 17a) for the Generals in 51 games that year before being dealt to the Roanoke Epress. Dhadphale split time between the Whoopee and Trenton Titans last season, notching a total of 21 goals and 29 assists for 50 points in 64 games. He also picked up a pair of goals in ten games with the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins. Dhadphale has proven to be a consistent performer over his three years as a pro, notching 81 goals and 86 assists for 167 points in 211 games, with at least 49 points each year. His best season was with the Titans in 2000-2001 with 65 points (30g, 35a). Dhadphale was drafted in the 1994 NHL draft in the tenth round by the San Jose Sharks.
Both Lassu and Dean are defensive-minded blueliners. Lassu picked up one goal and nine assists for ten points in 66 games in his rookie campaign, picking up 150 penalty minutes along the way. Lassu completes a trade which originally sent defenseman Rob Sandrock to the Chiefs for forward Jim Shepherd. Shepherd was subsequently traded to the Augusta Lynx for center Jeff Bes. Dean played half of this past season with the Generals, picking up two goals and six assists for eight points in 31 games, with 58 penalty minutes. With Dean being shipped to the Rivermen, the trade which brought right wing Dennis Maxwell to the Generals in exchange for forward Bret DeCecco is now finalized.
The Generals are offering a tremendous early bird special on season tickets for the 2002-2003 campaign. A season ticket for all 36 home games at the Greensboro Coliseum is only $199.00 for a limited time. The offer is good for all seats except On-Ice and Foxhole tickets, which have their own special price of $249.00 and $299.00 respectively.
