Stingers Score Runs in Bunches, Defeat Larks 12-1 for Nine Straight Wins
June 16, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Willmar Stingers News Release
The Willmar Stingers offense struck quickly and it paid dividends to the tune of a 12-1 victory over the Bismarck Larks to record the series sweep.
Although the Stingers broke a streak of scoring in the first inning for four consecutive games, they more than made up for it in the second inning with four runs coming across.
Five consecutive batters reached base for the Stingers with the biggest hit coming from MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game Gabe Swansen.
Swansen hit a 2-RBI single to provide half of the Stinger runs in the second.
The Stingers would add five more in the fourth inning with Swansen again hitting a 2-RBI single.
It would be after that inning where the Stingers would make a pitching change after Clay Beaumont pitched four shutout innings where he struck out six batters and only allowed one hit.
Will Whelan would make his Stinger debut and allow the lone Larks run in the fifth which would be the only blemish in his two innings of work.
Offensively meanwhile, the Stingers added on their final three runs of the night in the fifth inning as Kyle Payne, who had a four-hit day at the plate, would plate the games final run with an RBI single.
From there, Hemponix Relief Pitcher of the Game Kris Hokenson pitched three shutout innings with three strikeouts to close the game and give the Stingers nine straight wins.
