Stingers' Offense Held at Bay in Series Opening Loss to Waterloo

Willmar Stingers News Release
WILLMAR, Minn. - Brett Solano allowed just one run in six innings, and the Waterloo Bucks scored four runs in the sixth inning on the way to beating the Stingers 7-2 at Bill Taunton Stadium on Thursday night.
Willmar (11-12) squandered a first and third chance in the bottom of the third inning, and the Bucks put up the go-ahead run in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good.
Stingers starter Corey Binger (Nebraska Omaha) allowed 12 hits in his six innings of work, but he kept the Bucks' offense at bay throughout the night, stranding nine men on base.
The Bucks finally made Binger pay in the sixth, as the first two batters both reached, leading to a four-run frame and the eventual game-winning tally. Adam McGinnis had the big hit in the inning, a two-run single that made it 5-0.
Willmar fought back in the seventh inning to get back into the game. In the midst of one of its best nights of the season, the bottom third of the order helped the Stingers start the rally. Travis Wacker (Oklahoma State) got hit by a pitch to start that rally and Brandon Perez (USC) doubled after that. Quincy McAfee (Pepperdine) singled in a run and then Dylan Woods (Nova Southeastern) followed with the second of his two hits of the night to drive in another run and make it 5-2.
The Stingers couldn't get any closer the rest of the way, and the Bucks scored two more in the top of the ninth to stretch it to a 7-2 lead.
Willmar finishes the abbreviated two-game homestand with the series finale against Waterloo on Friday night, which is also Princess Night presented by Willmar Fests. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
