
Sting Well Represented in Round 1 of NHL Draft

The first round of the 2014 NHL Draft saw ten members of the Ontario Hockey League selected - one short of the record (11). Of these ten players chosen, two of which are members of the Sarnia Sting.
With the 19th overall pick, the Tampa Bay Lighting selected Sting offensive defenseman, Anthony DeAngelo. DeAngelo, who was accompanied by over 100 friends and family at tonight's draft, will join former first overall pick and Sting alumnus, Steven Stamkos in the Sunshine State. DeAngelo led all OHL defenseman with 71 points in 51 games this past season.
Later in the first round, the San Jose Sharks chose Sarnia's skilled winger, Nikolay Goldobin with the 27th pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. The smooth skating Goldobin recorded 94 points in his draft year with the Sting this season.
The last time two Sting players were selected in the first round was in 2012 when Nail Yakupov and Alex Galchenyuk went 1st and 3rd overall respectively. With six more rounds tomorrow, fans can watch for Sting draft pick Josh Jacobs, newly acquired forward Hayden Hodgson, and defenseman Kevin Spinozzi to be chosen.
Rounds 2-7 will begin tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
