Windsor Spitfires News Release
WINDSOR, ON. - The Sting were victorious in Windsor on Saturday night. It was a close battle all night but the Spitfires fell short in overtime.
The first and second periods saw no scoring and a penalty free battle. Both teams had their chances but either missed the net or the netminder stood tall. Both Gaudreau and Onuska had fantastic games in goal.
The Sting got on the board first in the third period. They had momentum after they failed to capitalized on a powerplay with the Spitfires hemmed in their zone they would score. Just under two minutes later, the Spitfires were back on the penalty kill but this time the Spitfires took advantage to score shorthanded to tie the game. Maillet had the puck and went in over the Sting blue line, 3 Sting players followed him towards the corner, he flung a behind the back blind pass to a wide open Morneau who scored his first career OHL goal. Late in the period, the Spitfires had a huge penalty kill with Onuska making a game saving stop to keep it tied. After 3 periods we were off to overtime.
In overtime, the Sting would take possession off the faceoff and score just 19 seconds in to take the extra point.
The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday October 6th when the Sudbury Wolves make their return to the west. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
