Sarnia Sting News Release
The Sarnia Sting visited the Kitchener Rangers on Friday night. It was game five of our best-of-seven Western conference semi-final.
It was a real loud crowd at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. And they got what they wanted. The Sting fell to the hosting Rangers by a final score of 3-2 in overtime. With tonight's loss, the Sting now trail the series three games to two.
Goaltenders ran the show this evening. Rangers goalie Mario Culina and Sting netminder Justin Fazio each held strong. Culina took the slight edge on this night, turning aside forty-seven shots in victory.
Through a scoreless opening period, Sarnia held the edge in shots. The Sting tossed fifteen pucks on Culina in the first; Kitchener threw just eight on Fazio.
In the second, the night continued to be a defensive battle. Rangers forward Jack York scored the lone goal. York's second of the postseason gave the Blueshirts a 1-0 lead after two periods of play.
Moving into the third, Sarnia turned on the jets real quick. A little over a minute in, Sting forward Sean Josling scored yet another terrific goal. Josling put the puck just over the shoulder of Culina from down in tight. Josling's sixth of playoffs tied the game at 1-1.
Sarnia forward Hugo Leufvenius gave the visitors a 2-1 lead. At the ten minute mark of the third, Leufvenius tossed in a rebound from in close. With the goal, Leufvenius tied Josling for the team goal-scoring lead - each now have six this postseason.
Rangers forward Nick McHugh tied the game at 2-2 with five minutes to go. It was off to overtime.
Rickard Hugg scored the winning goal for Kitchener. Hugg found himself open in the slot and wired one past Fazio. The Rangers took tonight's game by a final tally of 3-2.
Fazio was solid all night long, and made 31 saves in tonight's loss.
