Sarnia Sting News Release

Despite a spirited comeback from an early 2-0 deficit the Sting dropped a 4-3 decision to the Owen Sound Attack Saturday night in front of 3270 fans at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

Just 1:41 into the opening frame the Attack jumped to a 1-0 lead, on a goal by Thomas Schemitsch.

Six minutes later Daniel Milne slipped one by Sarnia native Justin Fazio and made it 2-0.

After an Attack hooking penalty sent the Sting to the power play, Anthony Salinitri found the back of the net to make it 2-1. Nikita Korostelev and Jeff King picking up the assists on Salinitri's 8th of the season.

Just four minutes later Patrick White snapped his 11th of the season past Owen Sound goalie Michael McNiven to tie the game at two's. Hayden Hodgson and Zachary Core were credited with the assists.

The second period was filled with chances but neither team capitalized on any opportunity. No chance was better than Owen Sound's Zach Nastasiuk penalty shot. Fazio was not fooled and slammed the door shut, keeping the game tied at two's.

After a scoreless second, the two teams combined for three in the third. Alex Renaud potted his 13th of the campaign five minutes into the final stanza, giving the Sting a 3-2 lead. Kevin Spinozzi and Daniel Nikandrov picked up the helpers.

Unfortunately, Sarnia's lead did not last long. Just two minutes later Owen Sound's leading scorer Kyle Platzer scored on the power play to knot the game back up at three's.

Just 1:41 later Daniel Milne scored his second of the night giving the Attack a 4-3 lead, which held up as the game winner.

The Sting had great pressure in the final minutes but could not beat the Attack net minder.

The game also featured a spirted tilt between Joshua Chapman and Jacob Busch just minutes into the final period.

Sarnia now travels to Guelph on Sunday to take on the Storm in their last regular season game, before taking on Conner McDavid and the Erie Otters in the first round of playoffs.

Tickets for the first round of playoffs are now available for purchase via the online system. Tickets are also available by calling or stopping by the Box Office. The Box Office will be open again on Monday, March 23rd at 10:00 AM.
