Kitchener Rangers News Release
Max Iafrate scored the lone Kitchener Rangers goal in a 3-1 loss to the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday night.
The Spirit led 1-0 after the first period, after they opened the scoring late in the frame. Rookie winger Adam McPhail nudged a rebound past Rangers starter Jake Paterson and over the goal line for his second of the season. Tye Felhaber and Kris Bennett collected assists on the play.
Each team fired seven shots on goal through the opening 20 minutes.
Mitchell Stephens extended the Spirit lead to 2-0 with just over five minutes to play in the middle frame. The sophomore pivot's 22nd of the year was assisted by import Artem Artemov.
The Rangers cut their deficit in half late in the period. Mark Bzowey gained the puck off the faceoff in the Saginaw zone and moved it back to Max Iafrate at the blueline. His heavy shot flew high over shoulder of Evan Cormier, giving him a career-best 12 on the season.
Kitchener led shots on goal 13-11 in the second period.
Import centre Vladislav Kodola's long shot found and empty Rangers net in the final minute of play to secure a 3-1 Spirit victory. The unassisted goal was his seventh of the year.
The Spirit led shots on goal 17-5 in the third and finished with a 35-25 overall advantage.
