November 4, 2004 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER â The anchor of the National Lacrosse League's stingiest defense and one of the game's most versatile players are back with the Colorado Mammoth, the team announced today.
Dave Stilley, an NLL veteran and leader of the Mammoth defense that held opponents to a league-best 10.79 goals per game last season, has signed with the team. Jay Jalbert, a 2004 NLL All-Star and Mammoth standout and both ends of the floor, also has signed.
"I am thrilled to welcome back both of these very important players," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "Dave and Jay are core guys whose experience, talent and will to win are vital to the Mammoth's overall success."
Stilley, a veteran of seven NLL seasons, won championships with the Philadelphia Wings in 1998 and 2001. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Duke University graduate is a defensive stalwart, who scored his second career goal last season. He added eight assists for the Mammoth in 2004 for a career-high nine points.
In just his second season of professional indoor lacrosse, Jalbert established himself as one of the game's premier two-way players. Despite missing four games to an injury, Jalbert collected 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points in 2004, sixth-best on the
Mammoth. He also picked up 87 loose balls, tied with Jamie Hanford for second-best on the team. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman was an All-American at the University of Virginia before being named to the NLL's West Division All-Star team last season.
The Mammoth also has announced the signings of defensemen John Gallant and Jon Torpey. Gallant enters his fourth season with the Washington-Colorado franchise, for which he was a rookie in 2002. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound graduate of Lake Superior State has played all 16 games during each of his last two seasons with the Mammoth. The speedy defenseman tallied nine points on two goals and seven assists in 2004.
Torpey, a former All-American and team captain at Ohio State has been a member of Philadelphia's practice squad for the last two seasons. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman was drafted by Columbus in 2000.
