Buffalo Bandits News Release

Buffalo, N.Y. (October 4, 2004) — Buffalo Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott announced today that the team has signed Duane Jacobs as assistant coach in charge of defense, Jonas Derks, Dan Teat, Garrett Cree and Jon Donnelly. As is club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. All transactions are subject to league approval.

"Hopefully, the fans remember Duane from his playing days with Rochester and Buffalo," stated Silcott. "If they do, they'll remember what a knowledgeable and dedicated player he was. Most recently, while coaching the Six Nations squad, he's shown the same qualities as a coach and we expect him to bring those assets to our bench and locker room as well. Putting him on the bench with Darris and Troy gives us a wealth of lacrosse knowledge. Duane has earned the players' respect and has a great respect for the game as well. He will prove to be valuable to the Bandits lacrosse team and the Buffalo community as well."

Duane Jacobs, who was head coach of the 2004 Ontario Lacrosse Association Major's Coaching Staff of the Year, led the Six Nations Chiefs during the 2004 season to a 12-5-1 record. Under Jacobs' guidance, the Chiefs advanced to the Mann Cup eastern semifinals before losing to eventual champions Peterborough 4-3 in the best-of-seven series.

A nine-year veteran of the National Lacrosse League as a player, Jacobs recorded 161 goals and 164 assists for 325 points, collected 345 career loose balls and posted 107 penalty minutes. He is currently ranked tenth all-time in league history in scoring and 12th in games played.

Jonas Derks (5'9'', 165) finished the 2004 regular season ranked second on the team in assists (30), tied for second in points (54) and fourth in goals (24). Derks exploded in the Champions Cup playoffs, leading the team in goals (9) and ranking second in points (15).

Dan Teat (5'11'', 180) appeared in all 16 games for the San Jose Stealth last season, ranking third on the team in goals (34) and fourth in points (52). He finished the 2004 season tied for tenth in the league in goals. The former captain of the Stealth registered 10 hat tricks last season, including an eight-point (6+2) performance against the 2004 NLL champion Calgary Roughnecks, which earned him Offensive Player of the Week and Overall Player of the Week honors.

Garrett Cree (5'8'', 180) appeared in 14 games for the Akwesasne Thunder (OLA Major) during the 2004 season, registering five assists and posting 10 penalty minutes. He was a teammate of John Tavares.

Jon Donnelly (6'3'', 250) was originally acquired from the New York Saints along with Matt Alexander, and the Saints' first-round (7th overall) selection in the 2002 Entry Draft to Buffalo in exchange for the Bandits' fifth overall selection and 20th overall selection in the 2002 Entry Draft. Donnelly has not played indoor lacrosse for the past two seasons but has excelled in the outdoor game at McMaster University as a midfielder. In his only season in the NLL in 2002, Donnelly appeared in three games, collected 12 loose balls and registered six penalty minutes.

The Bandits will open the 2005 season against the Toronto Rock at the HSBC Arena on Friday, January 7, 2005, at 7:30 PM.
