July 3, 2014 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - When start of the game is delayed by 50 minutes because of a hurricane, that should be a sign that something bizzare is about to happen. The game finally got underway, and the SwampDogs ended up losing 16-8 to the Wilson Tobs Thursday night.
Things got started quickly for the SwampDogs, scoring three runs in the first, two off the bat of Kam Stewart who launched a laserbeam of a homerun over the second level of advertising in left field. The inning was helped along by Tobs starter Quinn Atwood who hit the first two batters, Jason Blum and Michael Bozarth. Atwood would hit five batters total in 4+ innings pitched.
Trouble found SwampDogs starter Jordy Farthing in the seventh inning, as the Tobs would send 11 men to the plate, scoring seven runs to take an 8-4 lead. The Dogs would strike back in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, to pull within 8-7, but that was as close as they would get to regaining the lead.
The Tobs sent 11 men to the plate again in the seventh inning, scoring 6 against Hasten Freeman and Hunter Barnett. They would one run each in the eighth and ninth off of Clayton Freimuth.
The winning pitcher was Jonathan Waszak, who improves to 1-0, Farthing was the loser, falling to 1-3.
