Owls Fall In Florence

FOREST CITY- After the Florence RedWolves and Forest City Owls each scored 16 runs last night on the road, the two teams met in Florence Thursday night in front of a season high crowd (1879) at Cormell Field.

The teams combined for 27 less runs tonight as Florence came out on top 4-1.

The RedWolves got on the board early scoring two in the first inning behind a two RBI triple from Kane Sweeny.

The Owls answered back in the third after Danny Sheehan doubled and was driven on a Hunter Bryant RBI single for their only run of the contest.

In the fourth, the Owls recorded two singles but Eric Cheray was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. The RedWolves carried that momentum into the bottom half and extended their lead to 3-1.

Tyler Zuber took the mound for the Owls tonight going seven innings allowing three runs on nine hits and struck out six.

Orlando Razo and Brock Goodling combined to throw the 8th inning allowing a run on two hits, with the run credited to Goodling.

Tomorrow night the Owls will be in Asheboro before returning home Saturday night to take on the HP-Thomasville HI-Toms for the biggest fireworks show of the year.

The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home Saturday night they take on HP-Thomasville at 7:30. Fans can purchase season tickets, ½ season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls office at 828-245-0000. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 of those - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
