New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - It was Steve Fox against Rockland's Julian Sampson, and once again the Jackals' right hander came out on top, earning the win in this one as the Jackals cruised to a 2-1 win in game one of Thursday's doubleheader.
Fox faced off against Sampson in the finale of the Jackals' last series with the Jackals on May 31st, allowing two runs on five hits and earning a no-decision. Today, however, Fox was able to get the win and did it by only allowing one run and a total of three base runners. He improves to 4-0 on the season.
Sampson meanwhile, was not to be outdone: he allowed both of the Jackals runs but only a mere three hits. Sampson, like Fox, was pitching on nine days rest. Sampson suffers his first loss of the season and moves to 3-1.
For the Jackals, both their runs came in the bottom of the third courtesy of a two-out rally. Gaetano Giunta scored on an RBI single by Bryan Sabatella. Matt Cusick then collected his first hit at home of the season, giving the Jackals the 2-0 lead.
The Boulders would score their only run off a sac fly by Qualon Millender in the next half-inning.
The Jackals and Boulders will face off for Game 2 thirty minutes after the conclusion of this game. The Jackals' Jon Kibler, who was recently reactivated from the disabled list, will take on Rockland's Bobby Blevins.
BLEVINS THROWS COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT IN GAME TWO
Rockland's Bobby Blevins was masterful for his second straight game and the Jackals were not able to capitalize on several opportunities, as New Jersey falls to the Boulders in Game 2 of the doubleheader 3-0.
Blevins, who threw a complete game last time out for Rockland, went the distance again, going seven innings, allowing four hits. He moves to 3-3 on the year.
Blevins was not to be outdone by Jon Kibler. The Jackals starting pitcher allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings. However, that was two runs too many, and Kibler suffered his first loss of the season.
The Boulders were paced by first baseman Ryan Scoma, who hit an RBI fielder's choice in the fourth that scored Keith Brachold. Then, in the 6th inning, Scoma hit a sac fly to left to score Qualon Millender for the second run of the game. Landis Wilson added a solo shot in the top of the seventh, his first on the season.
The Jackals moved only one runner to second all game. They Jackals have now split every doubleheader they have played this season.
With the loss, the Jackals move to second in the Can-Am League standings in favor of the Quebec Capitales. The Canadian squad will arrive at Yogi Berra Stadium tomorrow for a crucial three-game set; the Jackals won the most recent series between the two squads 2-1. First pitch for Friday's matchup is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Craig Clark will make his second start for New Jersey. They'll face the charismatic Brett Rambisz. Rembisz threw seven and two-thirds of three-run ball in a winning effort against the Jackals this past Sunday.
