
Stephon Thorne Named Assistant Coach of Mississauga Steelheads

MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads announced on Monday that Stephon Thorne has been hired as an Assistant Coach.
Raised in Mississauga, Ontario, Thorne played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League for the Brampton Battalion and led the team as captain in his final season in 2010-11. Following his junior career, Thorne played six years in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets, Toledo Walleye before returning home to play for the Brampton Beast. After finishing his playing career, the 33-year-old has been coaching minor hockey for six years including taking the position of Assistant Coach for Mississauga Rebels '03 age group, Head Coach of the Mississauga Senators '09 class and Assistant Coach of the Mississauga Senators '07 group; a team which first round draft pick Jack Ivankovic was a part of. Additionally, Thorne is a Head Skill Development Coach on and off ice for Varsity Hockey.

He was a captain in the OHL, he attended an NHL camp and played a number of years in pro hockey. Stephon is a born leader. Thorne commented on joining the Steelheads organization. "I'm very excited to join the Mississauga Steelheads and can't wait to get started. I want to thank James Richmond & Michael Doyle for the opportunity!"
