Stephens Shines in Road Finale

August 11, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

Fort Worth Cats' starter Cole Stephens had a no hitter through 5 1/3 innings, and guided his team to a 5-2 win against the San Angelo Colts in their series finale at Foster Field Saturday night.

Stephens (7-2) retired the first seven batters he faced, and forced 17 ground ball outs. Overall, he allowed two runs on five hits in 7 2/3 innings for the victory.

The Cats held a 1-0 lead through the first five innings, and then exploded for three runs in the sixth. First baseman David Bergin, third baseman Greg Bachman, and designated hitter Luany Sanchez all doubled that inning. Sanchez capped it off with a two-run double that scored Bachman and right fielder Chris Ellison.

Down 4-0, San Angelo rallied for two runs in the seventh. Left fielder Joseph Hicks hit a leadoff double and scored on a passed ball during third baseman Ryan Hutson's at-bat.

Hutson then crushed a solo homer to cut the Colts' deficit to 4-2. It was Hutson's fourth home run of the season.

That proved to be as close as San Angelo would get, though, as Cats' closer Trevor Longfellow shut the Colts down and earned a four-out save. It was his fourth save of the year.

San Angelo starter Demetrius Banks (4-3) allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings, and suffered the loss.

The win improves Fort Worth to 47-28, while the loss drops San Angelo to 37-38. The Cats and Colts play a four game series at LaGrave Field beginning tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. Tickets can be found online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
