Five-Run Second Powers Cats to Victory

August 11, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats used a five-run second inning to defeat the San Angelo Colts 6-2 in game one of a five-game series at LaGrave Field on Sunday.

The Colts (37-39) connected with three doubles off Cats' starter Aaron Wilkerson to go up 2-0 in the first inning before the Cats (48-28) erupted for five runs in the second on three singles, four walks and a hit batter.

After the rough first inning, Wilkerson settled down and gave up only two more hits through his five innings pitched and then gave way for the Cats' bullpen to stifle the San Angelo lineup for the remaining four innings.

The Cats broke the five-inning scoreless streak with a Ryan Miller double and Cameron Monger single in the eighth inning.

Monger and David Bergin both finished the game with two RBI.

San Angelo designated hitter Miguel Alfonso was ejected from the game after watching three called strikes in the first inning. After taking strike three, Alfonso brushed some dirt from the batter's box onto the leg of home plate umpire Casey Moser and Moser tossed Alfonso immediately.

The Cats and Colts will play a doubleheader on Monday, with the first game beginning at 6:05 p.m. and 30 minute break in between the games. Both games will be seven innings.

Tickets to all home games can be purchased by calling (817) 332-CATS or by going online to FWCats.com.
