Modesto Nuts News Release
Visalia, CA. - A two-run shot was all the Modesto Nuts needed to take the rubber game of a three-game series 2-1 against the Visalia Rawhide at Recreation Park on Thursday night.
Troy Stein smashed an opposite field two-run homer in the fourth off Rawhide (29-31; 75-55) starter Justin Donatella (L, 4-4). That was all the Nuts (27-33; 53-77) would get as Donatella worked six innings with six strikeouts and just one walk.
Jack Wynkoop (W, 7-2) was even better over six shutout innings. He surrendered just four hits without walking a batter and striking out five. Wynkoop has allowed just one earned run in 30 August innings.
Luis Niebla (S, 15/16) entered the game with the tying run on in the bottom of the eighth, but stranded him at first and worked around a single in the ninth to lock up the two-inning save.
The opener of a three-game series against Lancaster starts on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Coverage from JTF on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
