Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- Dodgers' rehabbing outfielder Andre Ethier had a pair of hits and Rancho Cucamonga swatted three homers in Thursday's 12-5 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm at LoanMart Field.

The win for the Quakes is their fourth straight, as they complete a three-game sweep of the Storm and eliminate Lake Elsinore from Wild Card contention in the South Division.

Ethier, who finished the game 2-for-4 with a single, a double and a pair of strikeouts, was participating in his first game of 2016, after breaking a bone in his leg while fouling a ball off his leg in a spring training game.

The Dodgers' rehabber wasn't the only rehabber in this game though, as San Diego Padres' rehabbing pitcher Tyson Ross made his first appearance since leaving his opening-day start for the Padres with a shoulder injury. Ross (0-1) had a rough go of it, as he allowed four first-inning runs, and only recorded two outs, before leaving the game with the Quakes up 4-0.

In the second, a two-out error prolonged the inning for Storm reliever Jose Castillo, which proved to be a fatal blow. After Mieses reached on an error to load the bases, Michael Ahmed ripped Rancho's fourth grand slam of the year, making it 8-0. The homer for Ahmed was his 18th of the year, adding to his career-high. An RBI double by Dian Toscano capped the five-run second, as the Quakes owned a commanding 9-0 lead after just two innings.

Quakes' starter Tim Shibuya was cruising until the fourth, when he surrendered three runs. A wild pitch scored the first run and Franmil Reyes mashed his 15th homer of the year, a two-run shot to make it a 9-3 game.

Rancho answered with a run in the fourth, as Johan Mieses hammered his league-leading 28th of the year, a solo-shot to make it 10-3.

The teams traded two runs each in the sixth, as after the Storm made it 10-5 against reliever Alex Hermeling, Matt Beaty answered with a solo home run, his 11th of the year to make it 11-5. The Quakes added another, as Noah Perio doubled home Will Smith to cap the scoring at 12-5.

The Quakes (33-27, 75-55) are now 20 games over the .500 mark overall for the first time this year. Rancho's win, combined with Lancaster's loss to High Desert on Thursday, leaves the Quakes just four games back of the first-place JetHawks with ten games to go in the regular season. If and when the Storm are finally eliminated from second half play (six back with ten to play), the Quakes will wrap up the Wild Card in the South Division.

Shibuya (3-0) earned the win for Rancho, allowing three runs on five hits over five innings.

On Friday, the Quakes head to San Bernardino to open a three-game series against the Inland
