BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield Blaze hit two grand slams on their way to a 13-6 victory over the Giants on Thursday evening at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Daniel Torres hit a slam in the second inning to give Bakersfield the early lead before Austin Wilson's slam in the bottom of the seventh broke the game open. With the loss, San Jose (66-64) drops two out of three in the series.

Dylan Davis (1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI), T.J. Bennett (1-for-2, HR, RBI) and Daniel Carbonell (1-for-3, HR, RBI) each homered for the Giants in defeat. Davis homered in all three games of the series and has now gone deep nine times in his last 14 games overall. Rando Moreno (4-for-4) added four singles as part of a perfect night at the plate on Thursday.

The Blaze jumped out early against San Jose starter Dan Slania. In the bottom of the second, Jay Baum led off with a single before Joe DeCarlo's one-out fly ball to shallow right was lost in the lights by Carbonell for another single. Slania then plunked Braden Bishop to load the bases. Wilson was up next and he struck out, but Torres followed by driving a 1-0 pitch from Slania over the fence in left for a grand slam. The home run was Torres' second of the season and it gave Bakersfield a 4-0 lead.

The Blaze kept the pressure on with two more runs in the bottom of the third against Slania. Back-to-back singles from Drew Jackson and Chantz Mack to start the inning put runners on the corners. Baum then hit a bouncer to third that was fielded by Miguel Gomez. However the Giants third baseman threw wildly to the plate in an effort to retire Jackson and the run scored. Mack took third on the error and then also scored when the next batter, Kyle Petty, hit a sacrifice fly.

Trailing 6-0, San Jose broke through in the top of the fourth. Walks to Mitch Delfino and Bennett put runners on first and second with two outs before Ty Ross smacked a double to the fence in deep right center. The hit scored both runners and brought the Giants to within 6-2.

Bakersfield though answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Wilson led off with an opposite field solo homer to right to make it 7-2. Torres then singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jordan Cowan single for an 8-2 Blaze advantage.

San Jose then used the long ball to get back into the game. With two outs in the top of the sixth, Bennett clubbed a solo homer to straightaway center. The home run, Bennett's ninth of the season, trimmed the Bakersfield lead to 8-3.

In the top of the seventh, Carbonell led off with a home run to center - his third round-tripper of the year. Then after a one-out single from Moreno, Davis stepped to the plate and launched a 429-foot home run to deep left center. Davis' homer was his 18th with the Giants and it sliced the Blaze advantage to 8-6.

San Jose threatened later in the top of the seventh as Delfino and Gomez produced back-to-back two-out singles to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but new pitcher Thyago Vieira struck out Bennett to end the inning.

Bakersfield then took control of the game with a four-run bottom of the seventh. Pat Young (1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO) entered from the bullpen and immediately ran into trouble as he hit Petty with a pitch before issuing a walk to DeCarlo. Following a single from Bishop that loaded the bases, Wilson crushed a 1-1 pitch over the fence in right for a grand slam - his second home run of the night - and a 12-6 Blaze lead.

Bakersfield capped the scoring when DeCarlo connected for a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth off of Tyler Cyr (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO) to make it 13-6.

Joe Pistorese (2-1) was credited with the win out of the Blaze bullpen after pitching 2 1/3 innings with one run allowed and three strikeouts. Pistorese relieved Bakersfield starter Tyler Pike after Ross' two-run double in the fourth. Vieira worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings to finish the game to notch his sixth save of the year. Vieira surrendered just one hit, walked none and struck out four.

Slania (2-2) was saddled with the loss after yielding a career-high eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits over four innings. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.
