Joel Irving scored twice in the first period to lead the Youngstown SteelHounds over the Mississippi RiverKings 4-0 today at Chevrolet Centre.

The RiverKings (27-15-2) ended their six-game road swing with a 4-1-1 record and moved down to fifth place in the Northern Conference. The SteelHounds (27-16-3) moved into a tie for third place in the North with the Colorado Eagles.

Irving scored his 18th of the season on a power play two minutes into the game. He scored his 19th at 16:55.

Chris Richards scored his 16th goal of the year into an empty net late in the third period. Petr Pohl also netted his 20th in the final minute.

Kevin Beech made 38 saves for a shutout in his SteelHounds debut. Ian Keserich made 22 saves in suffering his first RiverKings loss in eight decisions.

The RiverKings host the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ.

PINK AT THE RINK

This Friday, the RiverKings will host the Tulsa Oilers for Pink at the Rink. The RiverKings will wear pink jerseys and play on pink ice. The first thousand fans will receive a Pink at the Rink RiverKings T-shirt from the DeSoto Athletic Club. The pink jerseys will go to auction immediately following the game to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Two dollars from each ticket will also go to Susan G. Komen. Meanwhile, Thompson Dunavant will sponsor Pink of the Rink. As part of their sponsorship, they will make a donation of $250 dollars to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Murphy & Sons will also help sponsor Pink of the Rink by making a 100-dollar donation.
