Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - On Thursday afternoon, Steelheads Head Coach and General Manager, James Richmond announced that the club has completed a trade with the Saginaw spirit. In exchange for forward Ryan McLeod, the Steelheads receive '01 defenceman, Duncan Penman, a 3rd round pick in '19 (LDN), a 2nd round pick in '20 (SAG), a 3rd round pick in 2022 (SAG), a 3rd round pick in '24 (SAG) and a conditional draft pick.
Richmond comments on today's announcement, "We would like to thank Ryan for his time and wonderful accomplishments with the Steelheads over his three and half years with the club. We've watched Ryan grow as a young man and as a hockey player and know there is a lot more for him in the future. We wish Ryan the very best and continued success in Saginaw."
McLeod appeared in 230 career OHL games as a member of the Steelheads; registering 54 goals and 170 points in the blue and white.
The Steelheads GM goes on to add, "While it's always difficult moving players, we feel we have added a super piece to our backend. We are pleased and excited about adding Duncan Penman to the Steelheads family. Duncan played his minor midget hockey across the street for the Mississauga Rebels and was selected in the second round of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection. We see Duncan as a key member of our defence core now and into the future."
After being selected 25th overall in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, Penman posted 10 points in 55 contests from the Spirit back-end last season. In 28 games this season, the Oakville native has notched 1 goal and 5 assists for a total of 6 points including 4 points in his last 4 games. He is eligible for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
Prior to signing with the Spirit, Penman played his Minor Midget hockey with the Mississauga Rebels where he registered 39 points in 76 GTHL games.
Penman is a gametime decision for the Steelheads road game tonight in Peterborough and will wear #75.
