Brampton Steelheads News Release
COLUMBUS, OH - The Mississauga Steelheads are excited to announce the signing of centreman Luca Del Bel Belluz to the Columbus Blue Jackets on a three-year entry-level deal. Del Bel Belluz was drafted in the second round (44th overall) by the team in the 2022 NHL Draft.
"I am extremely honoured to have signed my first NHL contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets." stated the centreman. "It's been a dream of mine since I started playing hockey and truly a surreal moment for myself and my family!"
Selected by the Steelheads in the third round (51st overall) of the 2019 OHL Draft, the Woodbridge, ON native had a breakout year with the team during the 2021-22 season. Putting up 76 points (30G, 46A) last year, Del Bel Belluz tied Owen Tippett's previous record of single season points by a forward and led the Steelheads in assists and game winning goals (8). He also made an appearance at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in March 2022. In the 2022 Coaches Poll, the centreman was recognized as the Most Improved Player in the Eastern Conference.
So far this season, the Steelheads star forward has put up 26 points (13G, 13A) in 21 games, placing him in second on the team in both points and goals scored. He currently leads the team with five power play goals scored so far. Del Bel Belluz earned his 100th career point on November 6 versus the Sudbury Wolves and is just shy of 150 career OHL games.
"Congratulations to Luca on signing his entry level NHL contract." stated Steelheads Head Coach and General Manager, James Richmond. "We are very happy for him and his family and proud of him. Luca has put a lot of time into his development, both on the ice and in the gym. We wish him the utmost success in his continuing development."
Congratulations to Luca and the entire Del Bel Belluz family!
