Steelheads announce opening day roster

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads will drop the puck on its Tenth Anniversary Season tomorrow night in Long Beach with an Opening Day roster that includes eight defensemen, eight forwards and two goaltenders. Two players will begin the season on the injured reserve list.

Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Laxdal has named veteran Marty Flichel Team Captain, and Scott Burt and Darrell Hay as Alternate Captains.

Seven players will return from last year's team including Scott Burt, Marty Flichel, Mike Gabinet, D'Arcy McConvey, Greg Rallo, and Steve Silverthorn.

The roster includes four veterans (Burt, Flichel, Darrell Hay and Lance Galbraith) and ten rookies, including two Harvard graduates who will make their professional debuts (Charlie Johnson and goaltender John Daigneau). A full list is included below and a detailed roster attached.

Idaho Steelheads Opening Day Roster:

Defensemen: Cody Blanshan, Mike Gabinet, Darrell Hay, Jon Hedberg, Jared Nightingale, Colin Peters, Kory Scoran, and Travis Wight.

Forwards: Kyle Bruce, Scott Burt, Marty Flichel, Charlie Johnson, Tuomas Mikkonen, Derek Nesbitt, Greg Rallo, and Francis Wathier.

Goaltenders: John Daigneau and Steve Silverthorn. Injured reserve list: Blake Forsyth, 3-day IR, D'Arcy McConvey, 7-day IR

Of note: Fan favorite Jeremy Yablonski was released from the team yesterday pending his United States immigration. Coach Laxdal said he expects to have the issue resolved soon and will sign Yablonski to an ECHL contract as soon as possible. Also, Jon Smyth has left the team to pursue another opportunity .

Idaho's home opener is set for November 3rd at Qwest Arena.
