
Royals Announce Opening Day Roster

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced the team's opening day roster. Comprised of eight defensemen, fourteen forwards, and two goaltenders, Reading's opening day roster includes nine members who played at least part of the season last year with the Royals: Chris Bala, Doug Christiansen, Jon Francisco, Yutaka Fukufuji, Greg Hogeboom, T.J. Kemp, Malcolm MacMillan, Kevin Saurette, and Jeff State.
The Royals' opening day roster includes three veterans (260 or more recognized regular season pro games and not under NHL contract) (Chris Bala, Doug Christiansen and Arpad Mihaly) and eight players who are considered rookies under ECHL rules (less than 25 recognized pro games) (Jason Becker, Dave Borrelli, Rob LaLonde, Jesse Pyatt, Kevin Saurette, Roman Teslyuk, Shawn Thompson, and Joe Zappala). Geographically, the roster is comprised of one player from Romania (Mihaly), one player from Russia (Teslyuk), one player from Japan (Fukufuji), fifteen Canadians, and six players born in the United States.
The two goaltenders on the Royals' opening day roster, Ryan Munce and Yutaka Fukufuji, are both playing under Los Angeles Kings' NHL contracts; and two forwards, Jon Francisco and James Hiebert, are signed to contracts with the Royals' AHL affiliate in Manchester. Three Royals are currently on AHL rosters: Doug Christiansen and T.J. Kemp, both of whom are loaned to Manchester; and Malcolm MacMillan, who is currently on loan to the Hershey Bears. Two players are also currently on the injured reserve: Chris Bala (3-day ir) and Jesse Pyatt (7-day ir). The Royals kick off the 2006-07 regular season this Friday night in Trenton against the Titans. The team returns to Reading the next night (Saturday, October 21, 2006 @ 7:05 pm) for the home opener against the Titans.
