Steelhawks Trade for Wake Forest Alum
November 9, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: In a year that will be filled with firsts, the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks announced today that they have executed their first trade in team history by acquiring the rights to former Wake Forest Linebacker and Defensive Tackle Eric Berry from the Green Bay Blizzard. To complete the transaction, the Steelhawks agreed to send future considerations back to the Blizzard.
"As Head Coach you have to be involved in all facets of the game, but I am still a defensive guy at heart," stated Richard Britt. "When the opportunity came to acquire the services of Eric Berry from the Blizzard we made the decision to pull the trigger. Coach Rik Richards in Green Bay had nothing but flattering things to say about this young man, and I believe our fans are going to enjoy his style of play."
Berry, a native of Suffolk, Virginia, played for the Demon Deacons from 2004-2006 amassing 43 total tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. At 6ft. 1 inch and 280 lbs., Berry has the ability to line up at Linebacker or put his hand on the ground and rush from the defensive line.
The team is hard at work in acquiring talent across the board and has another open tryout scheduled for sometime in December in the works. The Steelhawks are allowed to bring as many as 45 men to training camp in February in anticipation of their February 26th opener at the Reading Express. The team's Home Opener is scheduled for March 19th at the Stabler Arena on the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University against the Richmond Revolution. Great season ticket packages are still available by calling the team's front office at 610-282-3100.
