Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (2-2) put on an offensive assault on Saturday evening against their bitter rival, the Reading Express, scoring the most points in franchise history in an 86-53 victory at the Stabler Arena. It was the first victory over the Express in the teams young history.
The Steelhawks scored early and often in a 34 point first quarter, starting with a 31 yard scoring strike to receiver Aaron Higdon. Bryan Randall, starting in his first game as a Steelhawk after a recent trade from the Allen Wranglers, put up impressive numbers in leading the team to the IFL's highest scoring game of 2012. The signal caller finished the game completing 10 of 14 passes for 213 yards and five touchdowns, and also found the endzone on two rushing touchdowns.
The Express mounted a comeback to end the second quarter getting within 13 points, however the Steelhawks packed it on for 39 second half points. Randall was able to spread the ball around to a plethora of receivers including former Express Wide Receiver Jeff Willis, who hauled in 4 passes for 98 yards and three touchdowns. Former Virginia Tech Kicker Chris Hazley hit four field goals in the game and finished with 20 points himself.
Randall was the key spark in this game for an offense, who until this point, were only averaging 28 points per game.
"He (Randall) is a true professional and a bona fide leader out on that field," stated Steelhawks Head Coach Chris Thompson. "His pocket presence, ability to make plays with both his arm and legs, and his command of the offense are the reasons he was a former ACC Player of the Year and MVP in the IFL. We played like a team tonight, and I couldn't be more proud."
The Steelhawks now turn their attention to a rematch with the Bloomington Edge, who last week clipped the Steelhawks 57-39. The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 24th at 8:05 EST.
