Steelhawks 2015 Home Opener Is Here
April 7, 2015 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (1-1) 2015 Home Opener is this week inside the PPL Center! The Steelhawks open their New Nest with an inter-league matchup with the Marion Blue Racers (2-1) of the X-League. The Home Opener is presented by KALCO Resources, Official Excavation Company of the Steelhawks. Courtesy of KALCO Resources, the first 1,000 fans at the game will received a free Steelhawks 5th year t-shirt.
The Steelhawks are looking to rebound this week after struggling on the road in Nashville last week. Even though the offense struggled to put points on the board, they were able to move the ball on drives, tallying over 200 yards of offense. Their best rushing attack comes in dual threat quarterback Shane McSweeny (50 yds rushing). Receiving weapons lie in leading receiver Brandon Renford (16 catches for 210 yds, 4 tds) and Mack Ogletree (10 catches for 122 yds), who had a break out performance last week.
Lehigh Valley's defense had a solid week two. The defensive front now has nine sacks on the season, spread out between five different players. DL Larry Ford and Amara Kamara both have 3.0 sacks. Rookie LB Chindy Ako-Agugua has proved valuable early, leading the team with 11 tackles (and 1 sack, 1 int returned for a TD, 1.5 tfl).
The Blue Racers from Marion, Ohio currently play in the X-League. They began play in the CIFL in 2011. Last year in the CIFL, they won the South Division title after going undefeated in the division. They lost in the championship to the Erie Explosion. They have two quarterbacks on the roster this year, starter Les Obie who is a smart agile pocket passer, and athletic Jordan Boykin who can break out for big gains with his legs.
The Steelhawks hope the offense can get back on track while playing an inexperienced defense. The receivers have exploited teams over the middle so far this season and will look to continue that this week in their first ever game inside the PPL Center.
The team is excited to officially unveil the brand new Black and Vegas Gold Embassy Bank Field. Special promotions for the Home Opener include: band Double Tap playing outside the arena pregame, pregame and halftime indoor fireworks, special performance by the Mini Metals with the Precious Metals at halftime, and the Bucket Drummers will be back to perform.
The Steelhawks will be back inside the PPL Center on Embassy Bank Field next week when they take on the Erie Explosion in a rematch of each team's season openers. Kickoff will be at 7:00pm on Saturday, April 18th. The game is presented by ESSA Bank & Trust and it is "Friends and Family Night." First 1,000 fans in the door will get a Water Bottle courtesy of ESSA Bank & Trust.
