Published on April 7, 2015 under Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release
NASHVILLE, TN (April 7, 2015) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) is proud to announce the Week 3 Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: QB Casey Kacz (Columbus)
Filling in for injured starter, back-up QB Casey Kacz (6'2 205, Buffalo St.) earned his first professional indoor start over the weekend leading the Lions to a 70-60 road win over Trenton leaving them as the only remaining unbeaten team in the PIFL. In addition to tying a franchise single-game high 8 passing touchdowns with current AFL QB Randy Hippeard, Kacz completed 25 of 40 passes setting the Lions all-time mark for most passing yards in a single game with 350. For the first time since 2011, Columbus begins the season 2-0 and will look to carry that hot streak this upcoming Saturday when they stay on the road to face Richmond.
Honorable Mentions: WR Terrance Ebagua (Columbus), QB Charles McCullum (Nashville)
Defensive Player of the Week: DB Brian Smith (Richmond)
Continuing in the trend of record breakers, Raiders DB Brian Smith (5'10 180, Virginia Union) set the PIFL single-game record for most interceptions in a game when he intercepted QB Garrett Sutphen four times in their 60-45 demolishing of the Hammers. In all, Richmond intercepted Sutphen five times tying a PIFL single- game team high. Facing an early 8-0 deficit, Smith's first pick helped turn the tide early when he promptly returned it 40 yards for the score. Raiders will try to get even at .500 when they host the Lions on Saturday, a team they are 3-0 against all-time at home.
Honorable Mention: DB Will Johnson (Nashville)
Special Teams Player of the Week: K Christian Reed (Nashville)
It was pegged as the rematch, an early 2014 PIFL Championship game rematch between the Steelhawks and Nashville Venom. Instead we got much of the same from last July with the Venom dismantling the Hawks 55- 28. Kicker Christian Reed (5'9 170, Wofford) wedged in four Uno's including converting 4 of 6 PAT attempts and a 24 yard field goal. Reed's eleven points helped him earn his first player of the week of the season, and season overall for his career. Next up for the defending champs is another meeting with rival Alabama with the Von Braun Center in Huntsville serving as the venue.
Honorable Mention: K T.C. Stevens (Richmond)
PIFL action resumes this weekend with all seven teams in action including a triple-header this Saturday. The weekend concludes on Sunday when the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks unveil their new nest when they play host's to the X-League's Marion Blue Racers For more information from around the league, be sure to stay tuned to www.proifl.com and check out the PIFL on both Twitter and Facebook.
