
Steamwheelers Name Tim Hicks Team MVP, Honor Several Other Players at Team Party

(Davenport, IA) - Quarterback Tim Hicks was named the Team MVP for the Quad City Steamwheelers during their annual team/sponsor party Monday, July 31st. Also earning recognition was WR/LB Jack Walker Jr., OL/DL Kika Kaululaau and DS Sidney Lewis. Walker was named Team Ironman, while Kaululau was named the Team Lineman of the Year. Lewis was recognized with the Coaches Effort Award.
Hicks finished the season with 4,496 passing yards, which briefly set a league record while passing the previous team record of 4,357. He also moved into the top three in four single game quarterback categories and seven regular season categories for the Steamwheelers.
Walker played an important role at both wide receiver and jack linebacker for the team this season. On offense, Walker was a member of the first trio in league history to tally 100 receptions and gain 1000+ receiving yards for the same team in a single season. Defensively, Walker shined as well recovering a team-high three fumbles while registering two picks and 34 tackles.
Linemen seldom receive recognition however Kaululaau made a name for himself this past
season while playing with the Steamwheelers. Kaululaau led the league in blocked kicks with six, while also registering a team-high five tackles for a loss. He also was tied for second in quarterback hurries on the team with six.
Lewis earned the Coaches Effort Award for his work ethic in both practice and games. Lewis, who appeared in all 16 games, was second on the team in tackles (66) and pass breakups (13). He accomplished those numbers while having to play several games away from his natural position in order to help the team.
Each season the Quad City Steamwheelers coaching staff votes on several awards for the team. Several of these players, along with some of their teammates are up for league awards, as well. The arenafootball2 league will announce those awards in the coming weeks.
