Albany, N.Y. - The Albany Conquest completed their fifth anniversary season with a 5-11 record following a 54-27 defeat to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers at Wachovia Arena on Saturday night. The Conquest ranked sixth in the East Division and 10th in the American Conference during the 2006 campaign. Albany ranked second in passing offense (4,570) and became of one just two teams in af2 history to record more than 5,000 yards of total offense (5,036). The Conquest set a new league record with 360 first downs and led arenafootball2 with 32:08 time of possession.
THANK YOU TA: WR/DB Thomas Anthony joined the Albany Conquest for the final eight games of the 2006 season and left an indelible mark. He led the Conquest with 883 receiving yards and 19 receiving touchdowns, while ranking third with 61 receptions. Anthony finished fourth in the af2 with an average of 110.4 yards per game, tied for sixth in the league with an average of 14.5 points per game and tied for seventh in the league with 7.62 reception per game.
RYAN HAS RECORD-BREAKING YEAR: Conquest QB Ryan Vena's return to the af2 will go down in the record books as one of the most successful seasons of all-time. He set a new single-season passing record with 4,520 yards to reclaim a mark he set back in 2003. Vena also led the league with 4,757 yards of total offense, 282.5 passing yards per game and 25 rushing TDs in an af2-high 657 plays. The 28-year-old ranked third overall with 362 completions, fifth with 97 total touchdowns, sixth with 237 rushing yards and eighth with a 62.6 completion percentage. The Colgate alumnus broke through into the top ten in af2 history in the following categories: pass attempts (1,527/8th), completions (983/6th), passing yards (12,0227/7th), touchdown passes (213/9th), rushing attempts (212/3rd), rushing yards (652/6th) and rushing TDs (56/2nd).
