August 1, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Stockton wide receiver/defensive back KENYATTE MORGAN, Central Valley quarterback SCOTT RISLOV, and Florida offensive/defensive lineman ALFRED PETERSON have been named the U.S. Army Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 18 of the 2006 season. In addition to these three awards, the recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award goes to Tennessee Valley wide receiver/defensive back HENRY FREEMAN. The Catch of the Week is a new honor that highlights the player who makes the best catch of the week.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Morgan (5-8, 175, Montana State) had an impressive individual showing for Stockton in the team's 62-49 Week 18 home loss to Central Valley. The two-year standout from Montana State made his presence felt the most on offense and special teams, catching two touchdowns and accumulating 171 yards on five kick returns. Morgan finished with 214 all-purpose yards, and also registered 1.5 tackles and one pass breakup on defense. Morgan completed the 2006 campaign as the league leader in kick return yards (1,793) and kick return touchdowns (4). He also finished second in all-purpose yards with 2,644. This is Morgan's second league award of his af2 career. His was first honored in 2004 as the Offensive Player of the Week (Week 17) as a member of the Central Valley Coyotes.

SCHUTT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Rislov (6-2, 220, San Jose State) had a historic night in leading his Central Valley squad to a 62-49 road win at Stockton in Week 18. The rookie from San Jose State threw for 341 yards (30-of-37 passing) and a season-high tying eight touchdowns without an interception. In the process, the standout signal caller set a new Arena Football record (AFL & af2) by finishing his first season with 106 touchdown passes. That mark well surpassed the old af2 record of 99 touchdown passes, set just a year ago by Matt Sauk. He also bested Dallas Desperados veteran QB Clint Dolezel's Arena Football League record of 105 touchdown passes. Dolezel made his mark just months ago in the AFL's 20th season. Rislov's effort also pushed him past 4,400 passing yards (4,446) for the season to set a new Coyotes record. This is Rislov's second consecutive Offensive Player of the Week honor.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Peterson (6-3, 255, Rutgers), in his rookie af2 season, was a defensive force for Florida in the team's 46-40 road win at South Georgia in Week 18. The former Rutgers standout had seven total tackles in the victory, including a career-high 2.0 sacks. Peterson's impressive effort also featured a blocked kick, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. His performance on the line will be key to the Firecats postseason hopes, especially in light of the recent injury to versatile veteran Comone Fisher. This is the first ADT Defensive Player of the Week Award of Peterson's career.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Tennessee Valley wide receiver/defensive back Henry Freeman (5-10, 180, Alabama A&M), who is in his second af2 season, is the Week 18 recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award, a weekly honor that has emerged this year to highlight the player who makes the best catch of the week. Freeman's catch was off a rare planned missed field goal attempt. Kicker Steven Lee pooched a high but short kick downfield, allowing Freeman to sprint out ahead of the pack. Just as the ball bounced in front of Birmingham's return man, it caromed right into Freeman's hands in full stride. Freeman then broke a tackle and twisted into the end zone for an amazing touchdown. He also caught three passes for 66 yards and posted one tackle on defense. Freeman's efforts helped the Vipers finish their season on a positive note, stopping the Steeldogs, 55-40. Others receiving consideration this week included Manchester's Jimmy Williams, Green Bay's Robert Garth, W-B/Scranton's Yaacov Yisrael, Arkansas' Kevin Williams, Tulsa's Cesare Manning, Oklahoma City's Al Hunt, Rio Grande Valley's Dwight Counter, Bakersfield's Eric Mahanke, Stockton's James Newson, and Florida's Brent Burnside.
