
Steamwheelers Lose Front Office Executive

DAVENPORT, Iowa â On Monday evening, the Quad City Steamwheelers received some bad news. Doug Beck, chief financial officer for the Steamwheelers, passed away at the age of 53 on Monday evening.
Beck divided his time between his accounting firm, Resource Accounting, and his duties as chief financial officer and administrative manager for the Steamwheelers.
"Not only did Doug Beck make an excellent ongoing contribution to our front office in finances through some challenging times, but he was a great guy that everyone on the staff truly enjoyed being around," Steamwheelers Managing Owner/Operator and Arena Football Founder Jim Foster said of his close friend. "His light-hearted approach to life will be missed by all of us."
Beck initially provided outside consulting service to the Steamwheelers during its inaugural season in 2000 at that time the corporate office and its sister team, the Iowa Barnstormers, was based in Des Moines, Iowa. In the fall of 2002 all operations moved to Davenport, Iowa and Beck assumed position of chief financial officer.
Beck was a 1968 graduate of Davenport West High School, where he was a swimmer for the Falcons. He then went on to graduate from St. Ambrose University in 1972.
Beck has been a life long resident of the Quad City area and is a well-known certified public accountant in the area. Beck was a long-time active member of the Shriners.
Visitation for Beck will be Friday, Feb. 20, from 3-8 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home on Kimberly Road in Davenport, Iowa. The funeral service will be held at Weerts Funeral Home on Saturday Feb. 21, at 1 p.m.
