Laredo Law News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The Laredo Law has been assigned Quarterback Chris Girbes- Pierce (grrr-bess pierce) by the arenafootball2 league office. Girbes- Pierce is the third player assigned to the expansion Law. The Laredo 2004 af2 season begins April 3rd and the home opener is set for April 23rd at the LEC. Call the Law ticket office at (956)-726-GAME (4263) or log onto www.laredolaw.com.
Girbes-Pierce, a native of San Diego, California, speaks fluent Spanish. He took over the starting QB job as a freshman in 2000 at Principia College and went on to start 33 straight games for the NCAA Division III School located in Elash, Illinois.
"I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity," said Girbes-Pierce. "I worked hard every day to be able to get the most out of my ability. I want to have a good time and perform well. The chance to play after college really means a lot to me."
The 6'1" 195-pound Girbes-Pierce led the 2003 Panthers team to a 5-4 record in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and was selected 2nd Team All-UMAC. He completed 52.3 % of his passes for 2,623 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior. He threw for a career high 509 yards and four TDs against Martin Luther College this past fall.
"I looked at the location of Laredo and it's exciting to see where it is," said Girbes-Pierce. "It is very similar to San Diego in terms of being close to the US / Mexico border and also that a major part of the population speaks Spanish."
In addition to football Girbes-Pierce played four years of baseball for Principia. On the baseball diamond he was selected as the Panthers' leading hitter in both his freshman and senior seasons. He was also selected the baseball team MVP as a senior and was a 2nd team All-UMAC selection as a catcher.
"I have known Chris' head coach Rod Humeniuk at Principia College for more than 15 years," said Law head coach Scot Maynard. "Rod sent me a tape of Chris and suggested I take a look. When I watched the film I liked Chris' size, arm strength, throwing accuracy and the way he moves his feet. Chris is a quick thinker who makes good reads. He has the good intangibles of an af2 quarterback."
Girbes-Pierce majored in Business Administration and has completed his B.A.
