Wilson Tobs News Release

EDENTON, N.C - The Edenton Steamers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and survived the top of the seventh inning to win the second game of a doubleheader and sweep the twin bill from the visiting Wilson Tobs on Friday night at Historic Hicks Field

Trailing by two runs in the sixth inning, Edenton (27-11, 9-3) came roaring back to tie the game and eventually take the lead against Brent Bonvillian (L, 0-1). The Steamers loaded the bases with one out ahead of Wes Meadows who laced a two-run double off the top of the centerfield wall to plate a pair and even the score.

One batter later, Wilbur Nevarez struck out swinging however the ball got away from Tobs catcher, Cambric Moy and allowed Koby Kramer to score from third with the go ahead run.

Wilson (14-26, 5-7) loaded the bases with no one out in the seventh inning against Jordan Egan. But, Aaron Rea fouled out to the catcher for the first out of the inning. Collins Cuthrell followed and struck out looking for the second out. Bryan Hill then went to his bench and called on Jackson Slaid to pinch hit, but Egan fanned the pinch hitter and sent the Steamers a 4-3 victory.

The Tobs scored a pair of runs in the opening inning against Steamer right-hander Matt Adams as Wilson loaded the bases and was able to push across the first run on a Wes Meadows error. Then, Cuthrell drew the bases loaded walk to plate Geoff Jimenez and give the Tobs a 2-0 advantage.

The Steamers cut the deficit in half as they pushed a run across in the second inning as Michael Camporale touched the plate when Tobs left-hander, Bonvillian walked DJ Johnson with the bases loaded to make it 2-1 Tobs.

The Tobacconists regained their two run margin when Trey Whaley led off the third inning with a double, then stole second and came in to score on a wild pitch for the two-run lead until Edenton rallied to win game two of the doubleheader.

Meanwhile, Wilson dropped the first game of the twin bill, 5-1 as Edenton scored three runs in the fifth inning against Brett Ash (L, 3-2). The big hits for Edenton in the opening game was a solo home run from Jason Kanzler followed by a two-run double off the bat of Michael Camporeale as Edenton opened with the four run victory.

The Tobs return to Historic Fleming Stadium tomorrow night when they host the Fayetteville SwampDogs at 7:05. It will another Festival Saturday presented by Chick-fil-A with gates opening at 5:00.
