
Blowfish Top Redwolves in Blowout

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish beat the Florence RedWolves 9-3 Friday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. The win keeps the Blowfish at the top of the Coastal Plain League western division.
The Blowfish got a wonderful start on the mound from Stuart Pound. Pound went six and two third innings giving up three runs on five hits while striking out one. Only one of three runs was earned for Pound as he earned the win.
The Blowfish got on the board with four runs in the fourth. Three of the runs came on a Michael Wilson bases clearing double. The Blowfish added two more in the fourth to chase RedWolves starting pitcher Patrick Andrews. Andrews went four innings giving up six innings on six hits while striking out one.
The RedWolves scored their three runs in the seventh to cut the Blowfish lead in half. But the Blowfish quickly answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh to take the 9-3 lead.
Adam Albers, Tucker Ward and Jeff Kinley all threw in relief and kept the RedWolves scoreless. Kinley pitched the ninth and struck out two of the three batters that he faced.
The Blowfish return to Capital City Stadium Tuesday, July 17 as they host the Thomasville HiToms. First pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at blowfishbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.
The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
