
Statia Placed On DL, Nieves Joins Travs

TULSA, OKLAHOMA -Hainley Statia has been unable to play in the first two games of the Travs road trip, and on Wednesday morning the shortstop was placed on the 7-day disabled list with tonsillitis. Infielder Abel Nieves will join the Travelers today from Rancho Cucamonga to fill his spot on the active roster.
Statia fell ill following the Travs 8-2 win on Sunday against Northwest Arkansas. He joined the team on the bus ride to Tulsa but was sent back to the hotel after arriving at the park on Monday. He will be eligible to rejoin the Travs on Monday, May 4 in the finale of their eight-game road trip.
The Travelers are the third team for Nieves to play for in the first month of the season. The 23 year-old opened the season at Rancho Cucamonga, but was sent to Salt Lake where he started four games and was 4-for-10 for the Bees before heading back to single-A. Nieves, the Angels' 50th round draft choice in 2005 out of Middle George College has played every infield position except catcher and pitcher this season. Born in Maracay, Venezuela, Nieves was batting .179 with no homers and 3 RBI in 12 games with the Quakes.
