Staten Island Pizza Rats Face off against Vermont Maple Kings

August 29, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Staten Island Yankees News Release

STATEN ISLAND, NY: There's a Food Fight brewing at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George. After receiving a challenge from the Vermont Maple Kings (Vermont Lake Monsters), the Staten Island Pizza Rats will suit up once more on August 31st for an exclusive and final time this season in a Food Fight for the ages.

The reprise of the Pizza Rats comes after unfortunate weather conditions caused only three of the five intended games to be played.

In addition to both teams wearing their jerseys designed by Brandiose, fans can purchase new special menu options that include maple bacon pizza and a short-stack of pancakes.

The game will not only impact each team's standings in the New York Penn-League, but will also be a battle for food. Both teams have waged a bet that the losing team must feed the front office staff of the winner.

If the Vermont Maple Kings win, they will be provided pizza for lunch, courtesy of the Staten Island Yankees. However, if the Staten Island Pizza Rats win, they will be provided pancakes and maple syrup for breakfast, courtesy of the Vermont Lake Monsters.

In addition to the Food Fight on Friday night, Mid-Island Little League will be honored for their outstanding run in the 2018 Little League World Series. We will also be hosting our final round of the Bazooka Bubble Gum Blowing Contest. MiLB writer Ben Hill will be facing former big league ballplayer and current bubble blowing world record holder, Kurt Bevacqua, as well as our best Staten Island Yankees bubble blowing player. It is also Football Kickoff Night. Medieval Times will be performing pre-game and every fan will receive a free hot dog, sponsored by Sabrett. And finally, what better way to cap off the night than with our final fireworks show of the season?
