Staten Island Yankees News Release
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Staten Island Pizza Rats dropped game one of their three game set with the Aberdeen Ironbirds 11-0 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.
The Ironbirds got their offense started right away with home runs from Johnny Rizer and Dalton Hoiles in the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead.
Aberdeen broke things open in the fourth with a three-run double from Zach Watson that made it 6-0 and wouldn't look back from there.
The Ironbirds added five more runs including three in the eighth inning on three straight hits and got a great start from Ryan Conroy who threw five shutout innings of two hit ball. Meanwhile, the Pizza Rats only had five hits in the game as the Ironbirds pitching did the job.
For the Ironbirds, Rizer went on to hit for the cycle in the win and seven of the nine hitters for the team reached base.
Staten Island will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when the Ironbirds return for game two of the series at 1p.m. at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
