Altoona Curve News Release

Earlier today, our beloved mascot Steamer was getting ready to film a segment with his new four wheeler from Steve Seltzer Powersports. In a rush to get down a flight of stairs to field level at PNG Field to ride his new four wheeler, Steamer lost his footing and fell down an entire flight of stairs. After an initial shock, Steamer was able to get up under his own power but was heavily favoring his left arm.

He was rushed to Blair Orthopedics where he was seen by Dr. Joshua Port and examined in the early afternoon hours. After a set of x-rays and a thorough examination, Steamer has been diagnosed with a left distal radius fracture and will require surgery, which is tentatively set for early next week. While never actually having treated a K4 Steam Engine before, team doctor, Joshua Port, MD, said the recovery time for Steamer should be in the 6-8 week range.

"First and foremost, we're glad Steamer is going to be alright," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "From the deafening sound of his fall this morning, we thought it might be much worse. To hear that it's a broken wrist and his recovery time is relatively short, is a relief. We can't say enough about the care Dr. Port and the staff at Blair Orthopedics provided today and know that the treatment plan they have prescribed will have him back in action during the upcoming season. We're optimistic that his stay on the disabled list will be short. Steamer wanted me to relay how touched he's been by the messages of support Curve fans have sent to the team this afternoon. The big green guy is in good spirits."
