Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Hartford, CT- The Hartford Yard Goats Baseball Club is set to begin a new chapter of professional baseball in April of 2016. The name was chosen by the selection committee after nearly 6,000 entries and over 35,000 ballots were submitted during the past three weeks. The name was made official at a press conference today at the Wilson-Gray YMCA Youth & Family Center on Albany Ave in Hartford with many of its kids in attendance. The Yard Goats will play a 142 game Eastern League Schedule starting in the spring of 2016 with 71 home games played at Hartford's spectacular new venue which will anchor the redevelopment of Downtown North, and will sit between two major highways, I-84 and I-91.

"We wanted a name that would identify our organization as family friendly and appeal to kids as well as baseball fans throughout the region," Team Owner Josh Solomon said. "The Hartford Yard Goats will create new fan experience opportunities for everyone and build a brand that embodies the fun product that minor league baseball teams are all about."

The Hartford Yard Goats was submitted by Anthony Castora who has won lifetime season tickets. The Yard Goat is a serious workhorse locomotive moving and shuffling cars from track to track in the rail yard keeping things in order. A Minor League Baseball player is like that humble Yard Goat, not a glamorous job but working hard day in and day out away from the big city lights to assure that the Major League affiliate is kept on track.

The Yard Goats are being brought to life by Brandiose, a design firm in San Diego. Partners Jason Klein and Casey White have dreamed up over 50 team names and graphics, including brands for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs and America's oldest baseball club, the Cincinnati Reds.

The Yard Goats primary logo, team colors, uniforms and mascots will be unveiled at a later date.
