Statement from President and Governor Rocco Tullio on the Cancellation of the 2020 Playoffs
March 23, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
Dear players, fans, billets, RogersTV staff, Callum Ng, our arena staff and our entire organization, I want to take this opportunity to first and foremost wish you and your families good health during this unprecedented time.
To the best fans in the CHL- I look forward to seeing everyone at the rink as soon as it is safe to do so and enjoying Gennies hockey again. Your support during good times and challenging times is what separates you from everyone else and we are proud to call you a part of Gens Nation.
To our billets- thank you for always taking great care of our players and treating them like family. We would not be able to do what we do without you. Stay safe.
Lucky, Shane, Callum- Season in and season out you bring your passion when calling our games at home and on the road. You are truly the best in the business and look forward to hearing you on air again soon.
To our arena staff- No one cares more about our arena, ice and keeping our facility first class. We truly appreciate everything you do to make our games happen at the Tribute Communities Centre.
To my hockey staff and employees- you always constantly strive for the best and we all never expected the season to end this way. Thank you for support and positive attitude during this difficult time.
To the players- I'm at a loss of words to try and explain this to you, but we will get through this together and we will be stronger for it! I have always treated you like one of my own and an extension of my family. I'm truly sorry this season came to an end so abruptly. We did everything to keep this season alive including playoffs. It comes down to health and safety of everyone and we had to listen to health officials and do what's best for each and everyone one of you during this challenging time.
To our overage players this certainly was not how we expected your final year to end in the OHL.
Cole Resnick- a great human being that went from an over-ager to coach to back to an over-ager and never once complained. You accepted your role and did whatever you could to help your teammates.
Brett Neumann- someone whose work ethic is second to none. His preparation before and after games was like a true pro. A great leader in how he played the game always leading by example.
Kyle MacLean- where do I start? Our captain and our leader, playing his entire OHL career in a Generals jersey. He is someone who brings it every shift and led by example on and off the ice. He came to the rink with a smile on his face every day.
When our season starts up again, I promise to honour you three in front of our great fans. I wish you all the best in hockey and wherever you life path shall take each of you. Regardless of the future, it is bright for each of you. You will always have a place as a General.
When we come out the other side of this, we will be back stronger than ever. Next year we have a great mix of young and older players to help lead the charge next season. We will look back at this time as a learning experience, to realize to not take things for granted in life and to enjoy every day to its fullest.
Family is so important during these times and the Generals family is there for you today and always.
Let's all stay positive, continue supporting each other and help those that may be in need during this unprecedented time. We will get through this and be back to playing hockey again soon.
Thank you and be well.
Sincerely yours in hockey,
Rocco Tullio
President and Governor
