State College Take First Two from Thunder

(Trenton, NJ) - The State College Spikes took the first two games of the series at Trenton Thunder Ballpark, winning game two on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 3-2. The Spikes got on the board in the fourth inning on a SAC-fly off the bat of Carlos Contreras that plated Ryan Guardino after a leadoff double. They added on two more on a pair of sacrifice flies in their half of the sixth, making it a 3-0 State College lead before heading to the bottom half.

The Thunder offense came alive in their half of the seventh, when they strung together 4 hits and plated 2 runs to cut the deficit to one. Trenton got on the board with an RBI single from Max Giordano that scored Ramon Jimenez. Hyatt Regency Princeton Thunder Player of The Game, Ernie Geraci, delivered with a two-out RBI-single to score Giordano from second, and to make it a 3-2 game.

The Thunder got 5 solid innings from starter Nick Payero who allowed only one run on the afternoon. Trenton turned to three bullpen arms in Tommy Benincaso, Brennan O'Neil, and Enrique Ozoa to keep the game within striking distance. In the top of the ninth, Thunder left-fielder Max Giordano saved a run on a spectacular full extension diving catch.
